June 25 Power Outage

Several thousand customers lost power early morning June 25 when our Bird Street substation had an insulator failure at approximately 5:45 a.m. All customers had their service restored by approximately 6:35 a.m.

The likely cause of the insulator failure was a lightning strike during the stormy weather that passed through here at that time. The damaged insulator locked out the Bird Street substation as designed to protect all circuits and homes served by it.

Our crew's initial response was to switch all of the affected circuits to be fed from other substations around the city. The last of the affected customers were re-energized at approximately 6:35 a.m. Our crew remains at the Bird substation making repairs to the damaged equipment.
