Cross Connections

As a way to maintain a safe and dependable drinking water supply, Sun Prairie Utilities (SPU) practices cross connection investigation and solutions. These inspections are through the Cross Connection Program required by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WI DNR).

All commercial, industrial, and residential buildings connected to the water supply will be inspected to detect actual and potential cross connections. Inspectors may make recommendations for installing backflow prevention methods or devices wherever necessary.

SPU has contracted with HydroCorp to perform industrial and commercial cross connection inspections. The HydroCorp inspector(s) are trained to perform the necessary inspections and will possess proper identification. HydroCorp personnel will contact SPU customers to set up an appointment.

SPU staff performs residential cross connection inspections during service visits. Staff will need access inside the customer’s home to inspect, so an appointment is necessary.
