PSCW Schedules Hearing For Electric Rate Adjustment

Sun Prairie Utilities had filed an application with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) to increase electric rates. The adjustment has been requested in order to cover costs associated with the Business Park Substation, as well as, inflationary increases in operational and maintenance expenses and costs associated with maintaining the reliability of the electric distribution system.  The last electric rate increase was approved in October 2019.

The utility is requesting an overall increase of 4.37%, or $1,441,958. After review, the PSCW staff proposes an overall increase of 3.98%, or $1,314,917. The actual change to individual customers will vary with electricity usage, class of service and the ultimate rates authorized by the Commission. If approved as proposed by PSCW staff under the proposed rate structure, based on an average usage of 636 kilowatt-hours (kWh), the typical residential customer’s monthly bill would increase approximately $2.40, or 3.0%.

A hearing on the application has been scheduled for Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. (CDT). This virtual meeting has no physical location  at PSCW's office in Madison, WI; however, the utility will have a physical location in the SPU Commission Room at 125 W. Main Street, Sun Prairie WIsconsin. Members of the public may attend in-person at the Sun Prairie Utilities address listed above or by internet or telephone to listen to the live broadcast on the PSCW's website at http://psc.wi.gov under the "PSC Live Broadcast " button.
