Effective August 1, 2021, collection efforts of unpaid utility bills will revert back to the filed tariffs approved by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW). SPU had temporarily suspended some repayment tariff requirements coming out of the COVID-19 emergency to enable all customers an opportunity to work out a deferred payment agreement. The tariff suspensions have expired.
According to the re-activated tariff, Residential Tenant customers who meet one of the following criteria WILL NOT be offered a deferred payment agreement if:
1. The tenant has defaulted on a deferred payment agreement in the past 12 months.
2. The residential tenant is responsible for account arrearages that were placed on any property owner's tax bill in the utility's service territory in the past 24 months.
3. The residential tenant has a balance that accrued during the winter moratorium that is more than 80 days past due.
Sun Prairie Utilities urges any customer who is behind in their utility bill to contact SPU at 608-837-5500 to discuss payment options. Customers in need of financial assistance should also contact Energy Services of WI (608-333-0333) and the Sunshine Place (608-825-3225).
